Bok “Reapered” Han-gyu is best known for his time as the head coach for Cloud9 and having secured them three LCS titles. Now, however, 100 Thieves sign Reapered as the head coach for their League of Legends team.

Tony “Zikz” Gray had been the coach for 100 Thieves prior to Reapered joining the team. Zikz was the head coach for 100 Thieves for over a year but had little success. 100 Thieves has gone through several growing pains with their roster since their early success in 2018. The team has changed players multiple times between years with a new player seemingly joining each split. Despite 100 Thieves’ best efforts to sign the most impressive talent, they have missed the mark each time. Now, they have signed one of the most decorated coaches in the League of Legends scene to run their department.

How will Reapered improve 100 Thieves?

100 Thieves have been known as one of the unluckiest teams in the League of Legends scene. After their breakout season success, 100 Thieves have been on a downward trend. They have attempted to improve their roster by signing World Champion caliber players.

Yoo “Ryu” Sang-Wook, who won the 2014 World Championship on KT Rolster, was the mid laner for 100 Thieves from 2018-19. However, an issue with import slots forced the team to remove him from the roster. Ryu was signed alongside current top laner Kim “Ssumday” Chan-ho, who has remained on the roster since 2018. After Ryu left the team, a new import slot was filled by the two-time World Champion Bae “Bang” Jun-sik. Still, 100 Thieves continued to struggle and attempted to patch the holes in their failing roster.

What Reapered brings to the team is his ability to use his track record to pull big name players to the roster. While on Cloud9, Reapered managed some of the best talents that the North American League of Legends scene has seen. Nicolaj “Jensen” Jensen, Jung “Impact” Eon-Yeong, Jesper “Zven” Svenningsen and Robert “Blaber” Huang have all been trained under Reapered. He has been known to bring talent from all regions, even amateurs, and then turn them into top-tier players.

100 Thieves have always been about nurturing North American talent for their rosters, despite a lack of success. Reapered will have the experience to field upcoming talent and prepare them for the big stage.

“After I talked with [PapaSmithy] everything fit me well,” Reapered said in his interview with Christopher “PapaSmithy” Smith. “The philosophy, improvement and management all looked great. So why not give it a shot?”

Reapered will join 100 Thieves as the head coach for the 2021 summer split as the first off-season update for the team.
