T1 is set to sign Josh “pwny” VanGorder to their VALORANT roster, according to a report from Dot Esports, . He is a Duelist player who most recently played for TSM Academy. The signing continues the T1 roster rebuild. Coinciding with this move, current T1 player Timothy “autimatic” Ta is reportedly leaving to join Evil Geniuses’ Counter-Strike: Global Offensive team. While experienced as a Duelist, there is no confirmation so far on what role pwny will play on T1.

pwny’s path to T1

In the most recent tournament pwny played, the Nerd Street Gamers: Winter Championship Open 10, he finished alongside TSM Academy in second place. That event started on Dec. 21, 2021, and TSM Academy needed a substitute due to Brandon Michael “bdog” Sanders’ reported move to Luminosity Gaming. Despite lacking experience playing with the roster, pwny helped the team with a 258.6 average combat score.

Before joining TSM Academy, pwny played for orgless North American teams Demon Time and Cosmic Divide. On those teams, pwny played in many minor tournaments in the NA circuit. Now, pwny has his shot to compete for T1 at a higher VALORANT level and qualify for the main VALORANT Champions Tour NA league.

T1’s future

With T1’s recent tribulations within the NA region of VCT, the team is looking to start fresh in 2022. The biggest signing to signify that beginning was Joshua “steel” Nissan, along with the reported move of 100 Thieves player Johann “seven” Hernandez to T1. With departures like Ha “Sayaplayer” Jung-woo to other teams, the roster is changing significantly from its 2021 edition.

The VCT league will begin on Jan. 27 in North America.
