Rocket League Sideswipe was announced in March of 2021 in a surprise reveal. But, since then, no news about the game or its development had been shared. A beta had been released in Oceania at the time of its announcement as well, but the rest of the world would have to wait patiently. Now, eight months later, the game appears to be ready for release.

Rocket League Sideswipe comes out for free in Nov.

Rocket League Sideswipe is a free-to-play mobile version of Rocket League. As the name suggests, the game is played in a 2D environment. But, just as the regular version of Rocket League evolved into a game with mechanics that Psyonix never could have imagined, the San Diego studio already knows that the game has a deeper mechanical layer than may appear on the surface. Some players have even already gone to the extreme with a multitude of flip resets and air dribbles, showing that even Sideswipe is not safe from freestylers. Players can now look forward to getting dunked, not only at home but also on the road. Sideswipe comes with 1v1 and 2v2 modes, as well as the basketball-inspired Hoops mode.

Before Season 1 begins, Psyonix will release the game in a pre-season. This allows players to get used to the new controls and collect some customization options before Season 1 begins.

Psyonix also intends to do crossovers between Rocket League and Rocket League Sideswipe, though they are keeping those details under wraps. But, by playing and linking an Epic Games account, players will earn extra XP in both Rocket League and Rocket League Sideswipe.

Sideswipe will be available for free on Android and iOS. The exact dates for each region are not yet confirmed.
