Rocket League Tournaments to get an overhaul soon

Ever since its introduction to Rocket League, the Tournaments mode has been a what-if scenario. What if Psyonix had designed it better? What if there was a point in using the feature? What if there were actual rewards? It looks like Psyonix is finally answering those questions in the upcoming Rocket League Summer Update.

Rocket League Tournaments is getting a massive overhaul in the large update, thought to be due on September 1. Though not yet confirmed, the current ranked season was extended until the launch of the Summer Update and will end on August 31.

Rocket League Tournament Overhaul

With the update to Rocket League, Tournaments is not only getting a ranked system but will also offer significant rewards for how well you do. The higher you place in every tournament you enter, the more points you score. These points can be used to obtain new items like new wheels, animated decals, and goal explosions.

The rewards in question are awarded through Cups, which are basically fake money lootboxes. You don’t get to choose your rewards; you’ll just have to get lucky. However, more credits means you can buy the more expensive Cups, which have a higher chance of unlocking a higher rarity item. And like regular items in Rocket League, five of these can be traded in for one item of higher rarity.

Your rank will also matter, as you will be pitted against people of your own skill level. At first, this will be based on your regular rank, but will gradually change to how well you do in tournaments over the following seasons.

Speaking of ranks, no successful season of Rocket League is complete without an accompanying title, is it? Well, winning a tournament of any rank will award a title. Win three of those, and you’ll get a colored title. Pretty neat! Easier said than done, though. Fortunately, the seasons are quite long, as they follow the regular ranked season, and you can enter as many tournaments as you want. You can enter solo, duo, or trio, but the mode will always be 3v3. Be aware, though—leaving tournaments early will result in increasing penalties.

Another slam dunk for the Summer Update

So far, the Rocket League Summer Update is shaping up rather promising! With cross-platform progression, new ranks to be introduced, and an overhaul to the UI on top of going free-to-play, Rocket League is finally getting that long-awaited fresh lick of paint since its original 2015 release.
