Ronaky’s departure from Team Liquid opens door for new talent

As one of the largest and most recognizable organizations in Rocket League, Team Liquid have failed to make an impression in the esport since first announcing their roster in July of 2020. In their first season, their best result was a top eight finish once across nine regional events. They exited early in all the others. Team Liquid’s line-up has changed time and time again in an attempt for better performances. Most recently, team captain Aldin “Ronaky” Hodzic announced that he’s leaving the team.

Ronaky was signed back in November of 2020. Founding members Emil “fruity” Moselund and Jack “Speed” Packwood-Clarke were let go to allow Ronaky to build a team around himself ahead of the 2021-2022 season, but the Dane did not manage to build a working roster.

Ronaky picked up the talented Bruno Alexandre “AcroniK” dos Santos in the hopes of making a change, but with Hrant “Flakes” Yakoub, he made an unexpected signing. Having failed to qualify for season 2021-2022 regionals, Ronaky then tried his luck by replacing Flakes with substitute Fernando “FERGM.” Gil. When Liquid failed to qualify once more, and therefore had missed out on all 2021-2022 Fall Regionals, the rumors of a complete overhaul started up again.

Team Liquid can’t find their footing in Rocket League

Team Liquid are on their fifth line-up, with a fifth-eighth place in one regional as their best result last season. This season, they did not qualify for any of the RLCS regional events. And, most recently, Team Liquid finally showed more promise than ever in the Monaco Gaming Show, where they finished second behind Dignitas. They played with a roster of mechanical talents in AcroniK (the only remaining member of the last RLCS roster shake-up), Oskar “Oski” Gozdowski and Tristan “Atow” Soyez.

However, the latter two players are 14 years old and, therefore, not eligible to play in the RLCS yet. According to Shift, Team Liquid are rumored to skip the winter split in order to make this Rocket League team work and practice with the new roster. Both players turn 15 in February, which will allow them to play in the spring split of the RLCS in May of 2022.

Only time will tell if this new line-up of young Rocket League talent will perform as promising as Team Liquid hope.
