Ruined King: A League of Legends Story coming from Airship Syndicate

Hang on tight, League of Legends fans. Riot Forge is cooking up Ruined King: A League of Legends Story, which you’ll certainly want to play. This is the first game to be published by Riot Forge and produced by video game developer Airship Syndicate, which made Darksiders Genesis. The trailer to the upcoming game was released during The Game Awards and is nothing short of awesome. Not to mention this game is in development for console and PC. How exciting!

Last week, Riot Games announced their new publishing studio, Riot Forge, which would allow third-party developers to create games within the League of Legends universe. This will help expand the franchise to wider audiences on different platforms and eventually open the world to the extremely popular MOBA game. Expanding the universe to different styles of gameplay will help catch the interest of players who would rather play first-person shooters or RPGs.

Taking place in both Bilgewater and Shadow Isles, the trailer begins with Thresh releasing the spirits trapped inside of his lantern. Speeding above seas, these spirits find their way to Bilgewater. Unsure of what’s to come, this leaves fans speculating on what the game is actually about.

At The Game Awards 2019, CEO of Airship Syndicate Joe Madureira discussed how great it is to work with Riot Games on this upcoming game: “We’re building on our experience making Battle Chasers and Darksiders to create a story-driven turn-based RPG… The story takes place after Burning Tides. So everyone believes Gangplank is dead. Bilgewater is in chaos. And you’ll actually play as some League champions and explore Bilgewater, The Shadow Isles.”

Exploring the Isles

Riot Forge has recently opened up Ruined King‘s website, with information on where it takes place and champions involved. You can click photos of either Bilgewater or Shadow Isles and explore what they have to offer.

Bilgewater is introduced as “a port city like no other—home to serpent-hunters, dock gangs, and smugglers from across the known world.” A few of its related champions include Fizz, Graves, Gangplank, and Illaoi. On this page, you get to see concept art, read related stories, explore the culture, and more.

Shadow Isles is known to be “once a beautiful realm, but it was shattered by a magical cataclysm.” It holds tainted spirits and haunted melancholy land. A few of the known champions for Shadow Isles are Hecarim, Thresh, Kalista, and Karthus. Similar to Bilgewater, you can view the concept art, featured video, and more.

Other games at bay

Finally, Riot Games continues to surprise its fans with new projects for the upcoming year. As announced on their 10-year anniversary stream, they are working on a new fighting game, Project L, which has been under development for some time. They are also working on upcoming card game League of Runeterra and a first-person shooter. We’re keeping our eye out on any other news Riot has for us.
