s4 departs from Alliance DOTA 2 roster in wake of other moves
The departure of s4 does not come as a surprise as two other members of Alliance, Artiom “Fng” Barshack and Linus “Limmp” Blomdin left earlier this week. S4 returned to Alliance last year in order to captain an Alliance team full of young and old talent. With one of the most prolific captains in DOTA history, Alliance were able to achieve a lot during s4’s stint. They finished first in the Western European DPC and were able to secure a trip to the WePlay AniMajor. However, they were trounced in the first round of the lower bracket, eliminating them from the competition early. From the WePlay AniMajor forward, Alliance had a round of disappointing results. The downwards trajectory followed the team into The International 10, where they had to start in the lower bracket of the main stage. While Alliance was able to beat Beastcoast and save themselves from the best-of-one series, the next series would bounce them from the competition. T1 would eliminate the Swedish organization from the largest DOTA tournament of all time, ended their run at 9th-12th.
“It’s always sad to say goodbye to a friend,” Jonathan “Loda” Berg, Alliance CEO and co-founder said in the organization’s announcement. “Especially a friend as special and important to Alliance’s history as the son of Magnus himself, s4. We all wanted more from this TI but that doesn’t mean we didn’t give it our all this year. Because we did. Everyone that reaches this prestigious event does.”
Alliance is now left with Nikolay “Nikobaby” Nikolov and Simon “Handsken” Haag to build around. With the 2022 DPC season starting in a month, Alliance does not have much time to fill their remaining roster spots.
