After Samurai Shodown was announced as one of the nine main games at EVO this year, many people were surprised considering the game doesn’t even have a release date. Well, SNK must have known how odd that seemed, and not long after the stream ended they gave us another teaser for the game that you can see here below:

While this trailer is short, we do get to see a lot of action in a limited amount of time, the return of some fan-favorite characters like Galford, and a release date of “early summer 2019.” Samurai Shodown has always been a more footsies-oriented game, focusing less on combos and more on spacing and whiff punishing. It seems Samurai Shodown will continue this as we can see single moves doing huge amounts of damage. We can also see the return of disarms, as seen at the end of the trailer.

We also get to see copious amounts of blood and gore, a staple of the series since its inception. Looks like Mortal Kombat won’t be the only big fighting game series to hold the blood card anymore. Although granted, it isn’t as over the top as Mortal Kombat, it is still nice to see more than one series have an edgier tone.

The biggest news from this trailer is that the game will be playable at PAX East March 28-31 in Boston, Massachusetts. Hopefully, this means that a beta will be available soon. We are still awaiting an exact release date, specifically in relation to how close it will be to EVO. You can see the official announcement tweet from SNK below:

All in all though, Samurai Shodown is looking great, sporting an attractive art style and keeping to the roots of the series. We will be sure to keep you updated on all the news for this title as we get closer to its nebulous release date.
