San Francisco Shock player STRIKER injures hand before Grand Finals

Kwon “Striker” Nam-joo, a player for the San Francisco Shock, revealed that his arm and leg had been badly injured in a social media post. This unfortunate news comes just before the upcoming Overwatch League Grand Finals on Sept 29. No further news has been released on whether he may be substituted or the organization’s plans for the near future.

Nam-joo “Striker” Kwon

Nam-joo “Striker” Kwon is a Korean Hitscan DPS player for the San Francisco Shock. His signature heroes are Tracer, McCree, Widowmaker, and Reaper. He started competing in 2017 on ROX Orcas and has since played for Boston Uprising before transitioning to the SF Shock. Since joining the Shock, the team went to a 2nd place overall finish in the 2019 Regular Season. The organization took 2nd in both Stage 1 and Stage 3 Playoffs, along with a 1st place finish at the Stage 2 Playoffs.

In the photos posted to social media, Striker shows off scrape wounds on his left hand and leg. While the leg may not be as important – at least as far as gaming is concerned – both hands are used to play Overwatch, which makes this particularly concerning. Members of the SF Shock Discord claimed that Striker had injured himself when riding on a rental electric scooter. Jay “sinatraa” Won’s girlfriend confirmed this rumor, as she was on a facetime call when the accident happened.

Overwatch League Grand Finals

The San Francisco Shock qualified as the third seed but was defeated by the Atlanta Reign in the Quarterfinals. However, they then beat the London Spitfire, Los Angeles Gladiators, and Hangzhou Spark in the Losers’ Bracket. The team eventually defeated the New York Excelsior in the Losers’ Finals to advance to the Overwatch League Grand Finals.

The San Francisco Shock will compete against the Vancouver Titans on Sept 29 at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The two teams will battle it out in a best of seven series. The winning team will take home $1.1 million USD.

Popular Twitch live streamer Michael “shroud” Grzesiek is another esports personality who injured himself in a scooter accident earlier this year. He had to go into surgery and took a break from streaming for some time. Will Striker be able to recover in time for the biggest event of the Overwatch League in 2019? Let us know what you think.
