SFAT wins Super Smash Bros. Melee Singles at Rollback Rumble: NA West

Zachary “SFAT” Cordoni won Super Smash Bros. Melee Singles at Rollback Rumble: NA West on Jan. 15. It was the first revamped version of Brandon “HomeMadeWaffles” Collier’s Rona Rumble series. In addition, it was the first standalone Singles tournament hosted by HomeMadeWaffles since last June.

SFAT advanced out of pools with little trouble, as expected. He earned flawless victories against Carlos “Copacetic” Cortez-Quiroz, Mark “Mario$” B., and Erik “Lengüitas” Cardiel Narvaez. Then in top 32, he secured a pair of 3-1 wins over Marth mains Alexander “KoopaTroopa895” Plasencia and John “KoDoRiN” Ko.

SFAT kicked off top 8 by defeating Johnny “S2J” Kim 3-2. Next, he dominantly beat Albert Luu 3-0 in Winners Finals. Grand Finals turned out nearly the same, as SFAT defeated Albert 3-1. In doing so, he claimed 1st place at the first edition of Rollback Rumble: NA West.

Albert had an impressive run to 2nd place at Rollback Rumble: NA West. He beat Christian “Kürv” Melendez 2-0, Christian “Salt” Rennie 3-0, and Jeffrey “Axe” Williamson’s Ice Climbers 3-1. These wins gave Albert a spot in winners side of top 8. From there, he beat Derek “Aura” Olsen 3-1 and S2J 3-2 while only dropping sets to SFAT.

Isaac “bobby big ballz” P. had a solid performance at this event, culminating in a 4th place finish. He defeated Eduardo “Eddy Mexico” Lucatero Rincón 3-1 before losing a five-game set to S2J. Then, bobby big ballz earned 3-0 victories over Ryan “Traplord” Willard and Miles “Soonsay” Foster. His run concluded with a 3-1 win against Aura and another loss to S2J.

Axe notably placed 5th at Rollback Rumble: NA West while exclusively using his secondary Ice Climbers. In the process, he beat Traplord, Matt “Quaff” Conrad, and Ben “SFOP” Duren. Previously, Axe had used Ice Climbers to eliminate Zain Naghmi’s infamous Roy at the Smash Summit 10 smurf tournament.
