It’s been quite some time since Pokémon Alpha Sapphire and Omega Ruby, the gen three remakes, came out in 2014. Ever since then, fans have anxiously anticipated Pokémon Diamond and Pearl remakes. Here we are in 2020, however, and we still have no word on them.

As 2021 approaches, fans are once again hopeful for the remakes. Here’s why we think that this year will finally be the year.

Pokémon Diamond and Pearl remakes could finally come in 2021

Ever since 2016, when Pokémon Sun and Moon came out, every year has seen a new release. In 2017 we got Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, in 2018 we got Pokémon Let’s Go Pikachu and Eevee, in 2019 we got Pokémon Sword and Shield, and in 2020 we got The Isle of Armor and The Crown Tundra expansions for Sword and Shield.

If this progression continues, we are due for a new game in 2021. 2021 also happens to be Pokémon’s 25th anniversary. This means that they are likely saving something extra special for the occasion. The Pokémon Company and Nintendo surely know how bad fans want to see Diamond and Pearl remakes, and are likely saving it for an occasion like this.

Nothing else seems quite as likely

While The Pokémon Company could choose to use the 25th Anniversary to reveal an entirely new generation, or expand on the Let’s Go franchise, both of these options seem unlikely. While a new generation might be exciting enough for the occasion, it seems far too soon given that gen eight just came out last year.

Expanding on the Let’s Go franchise would likely just leave fans unhappy. While the original Let’s Go games weren’t bad by any means, they were gimmicky and didn’t feel like part of the core series.

There is also the possibility that 2021 will have something entirely new in store for us. The Pokémon franchise thrives off of nostalgia, however, so it seems more than likely that the Diamond and Pearl remakes are on their way!
