Sony provides PS5 specs, backward compatibility details and more

Sony has finally revealed details on the long-awaited PlayStation 5, with a release date set for late 2020. The next-gen console will have features its predecessors didn’t have and so much more. In an updated Sony blog post, the company goes into detail on what great new things the PS5 has to offer.

The future of gaming is constantly changing and growing, and that’s what Sony focused on when developing the PS5. On March 18, they revealed a list of specs and features the next-gen console will have, including CPU, System Memory, GPU and more. The most highly anticipated feature, though, has been the possibility of the console offering backward compatibility.

For some insight, backward compatibility is a feature that would allow the PS5 to play games from previous PlayStation consoles. Unfortunately, the absence of the topic in the blog post created some disappointment in the gaming community. After plenty of rumors throughout the past year, fans hoped they would be able to play their favorite classics in an updated console. The good news came later in a recent update, where Sony acknowledged the general feeling of the community and put some of their minds at ease.

Specs and compatibility

The update begins by giving readers a quick look at what’s going on at Sony.

“With all of the amazing games in PS4’s catalog, we’ve devoted significant efforts to enable our fans to play their favorites on PS5. We believe that the overwhelming majority of the 4,000+ PS4 titles will be playable on PS5.”

At the moment, it doesn’t seem that the PS5 will play classics from consoles before the PS4. At the moment, Sony is currently “evaluating games on a title-by-title basis to spot any issues that need adjustment from the original software developers.”

Additionally, Sony plans to reveal more details about this specific feature soon. As readers don’t know the whole story, they can only patiently wait for the next update.

Overall, some specs of the PS5 seem pretty promising. It replaces the PS4 Slim and PS4 Pro, and fans are ready to pick one up this holiday season. The console will also carry AMD Radeon RDNA 2-based graphics engine, allowing high-performance gaming for everyone.
