Former LDLC.OL top laner Danny “Dan Dan” Le Comte plans to retire from pro play to coach the 100 Thieves League of Legends team in 2022, sources told Upcomer on Monday.
Dan Dan has played in the top lane for some years in Europe, but most will remember him from his time with Misfits in the League European Championship in 2020. Last year, Dan Dan played in the LFL, France’s domestic league, with LDLC.OL where similarly to his team with Misfits they had average results as LDLC.OL finished ninth during the spring regular season and fifth in summer.
During the offseason, Dan Dan tried out as a top laner for teams from European Regional Leagues, but in the end he decided to move into a coaching position for the North American squad. 100 Thieves finished tied for first in the regular season of the League Championship Series summer split with an 18-9 record and followed that up with a championship in the summer playoffs to secure a spot at the League of Legends World Championship. However, the team petered out at Worlds, finishing 3-3 and third in their group behind eventual champion Edward Gaming and group leader T1, which lost to runner-up DWG KIA in the semifinals.
Dan Dan is not the first European player recruited by 100 Thieves for a coaching position, Aleš “Freeze” Kněžínek who coached 100 Thieves this year did a similar move after playing bot lane in European Regional Leagues before that.

The move is one of a couple changes 100 Thieves are making ahead of the 2022 season, including a high-profile change in the top lane. Rookie Milan “Tenacity” Oleksijwill be splitting time with Kim “Ssumday” Chan-ho in that role, while the rest of the starting roster will remain intact for the spring split.
