NRG Esports is set to remove Matthew “Wedid” Suchan from their starting VALORANT roster, multiple sources told Upcomer Sept. 24.

The move comes after NRG failed to qualify for the Last Chance Qualifier, which is the only method of direct qualification for Champions for North American teams that failed to qualify through the masters events.

The replacement for Wedid is unclear at the time, however. The team has not practiced recently, according to one source. NRG will likely undergo some form of rebuild next year, prior to the start of the new season. The organization is known to be proactive, however, so a replacement could be trialed soon.

NRG Esports are one of the largest organizations to have missed out of the upcoming Last Chance Qualifier, alongside other teams like T1 Esports. The event, which will begin offline next month, will act as the final chance for a North American team to earn a spot at Champions, which will begin in December.

Additionally, NRG failed to qualify for the most recent VALORANT Championship Tour event. During the Stage 3 Challengers 2 open qualifier, which concluded in August, NRG were eliminated by Resonate in the round of 32.

The team has played in some smaller events since VCT concluded, however. NRG played in the Nerd Street Gamers Summer Championship, which ended on Aug. 23. They finished second in the event following victories against Evil Geniuses, Teal Seam, Complexity, YFP Gaming and Squirtle Squad. Cloud9 Blue defeated NRG during the grand final, however.

NRG will likely be back in action next year, following the restart of the VCT circuit. Riot Games has yet to release information regarding next year’s circuit.

If Wedid is removed from NRG’s VALORANT team, the organization will temporarily field the following roster:

  • Daniel “eeiu” Vucenovic
  • Sam “s0m” Oh
  • Bradley “ANDROID” Fodor
  • Ian “tex” Botsch
  • Josh “JoshRT” Lee (coach)
