How it works and how to register

The Apex Legends tournament will happen from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. EST on Feb. 19. It will be an online event and livestreamed on The Brag House’s official Twitch channel.

There will be no entrance fee, and Apex Legends teams will compete for a scholarship, gaming gear and prizes within the Brag House app.

Below is the list of prizes for the The Black Legends Tournament:

  • Honor a Historically Black college or university of their choice with a $600 scholarship in their name, sponsored by Brag House
  • Gaming gear valued at $150 ($50 per gamer)
  • 6,000 Brag Bucks on the Brag House app (2,000 Brag Bucks per gamer)

In terms of the tournament format, each team will consist of three players. Fifteen to 20 teams will compete on the World’s Edge map. The scoring will be based on each team’s final placement at the end of each match and the total eliminations per team, according to the tournament page.

Interested participants can sign up via The Brag House’s website to compete in the Apex Legends event.

The Black Legends Tournament and beyond

The tournament page noted that in addition to live commentary, The Black Legends Tournament will have an esports panel discussion.

According to the email press release, the event will also be a prelude to the launch of the HBCU tournament series for the summer. This upcoming series will feature NBA 2K22, Rocket League and Super Smash Bros., while including students from Alabama State, Kentucky State, Spelman, Virginia State and Stillman.

Each of these upcoming tournaments will be played across several weeks, feature round robin group stages and a final standard bracket. This series will be sponsored by Coca-Cola and McDonald’s.

“As a black founder, I’m incredibly proud to be announcing The Black Legends Tournament ahead of our HBCU tournament series starting in the summer,” said The Brag House CEO and co-founder Lavell Juan. “The response we’ve had so far has been incredible, and we are already planning for even more colleges and universities to be involved this year and beyond.”
