Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok recently revealed he had donated 30 million Korean won or around $25,200 to the Community Chest of Korea nonprofit organization to combat COVID-19 coronavirus. As the disease continues to spread through his home country, Faker and the T1 organization felt they had to support the affected. Faker announced his donation to the nonprofit after the LCK went on indefinite hiatus to ensure the safety of the players and staff working at the venue.

Faker’s contribution is the largest donation out of the scene so far. However, Faker is not the only Korean League of Legends pro to donate to the Community Chest of Korea. In the past week, Jeong “Chovy” Ji-hoon, the mid laner for DragonX, and DragonX General Manager Choi Sang-in have donated 10 million won, or about $8,400 each. These donations follow the lead of Gen.G mid-laner Gwak “Bdd” Bo-Seong, who gave 5 million Korean won, or about $4,200, on Feb. 27.
The teams are joining in to help
DRX have donated to help fight against COVID-19.

In addition to the players sending their help, several organizations are also joining in. For example, Faker’s team, T1, is donating all revenue from this week’s streams to the Community Chest of Korea. Meanwhile, the DragonX organization is giving the revenue from their merch sales, on request of the staff, players, and fans, to fight the spread of the disease.
Back in February, Overwatch team Seoul Dynasty, owned by Gen.G, committed to donating all revenue from their merch sales and in-game skins and earnings from their home games for March to support the cause further. Other parts of the Gen.G team have not committed to donating more at this time. However, it is expected for the organization to provide more support in the coming weeks by the fans’ request.

Faker put out a statement of support to everyone working to prevent the spread of the coronavirus. The announcement by Faker is an attempt to garner more support for the people in need this week. On his streams, Faker has urged his fans to donate to organizations involved with the virus.
