The Modern Warfare gameplay premiere gave us our first real look at the maps within multiplayer. Though we had already seen the new Gunfight mode maps beforehand, in the reveal we received a preview of what’s to come in actual multiplayer.
Back in early July, we received some leaks about a new direction for the map design in Modern Warfare. These leaks said that night versions of maps would be coming. As it turns out, that was correct.
However, this isn’t the only aspect of traditional map design that Infinity Ward is changing. Today we’ll look at some of these changes and go over all of the confirmed maps for Modern Warfare.
Every confirmed map for Modern Warfare
The multiplayer premiere allowed us to see several of the maps that will launch with Modern Warfare. Though we don’t have an exact number, rumor has it that the game will come with around 15 multiplayer maps.
In the multiplayer reveal, we got to see five maps for the traditional multiplayer. We also saw the three previously confirmed Gunfight maps. Below you can see all images of all eight currently confirmed maps.
Gun Runner
Gun Runner is a medium-sized map, perfect for any game mode or weapon. Domination played especially well on this map.
Hackney Yard
This map can be played in either a daytime or night setting. Several maps within Modern Warfare will have this feature.
Azhir Cave (Night setting)
Azhir Cave was the showcase map for the night vision in Modern Warfare. Many of the streamers at the gameplay reveal thought the night version of the map felt new and refreshing.
Grazna Raid
This is the first of a few maps that will only be playable in 10v10 and 20v20 modes. It is significantly larger than the previous maps on this list.
Aniyah Palace
Another gigantic map, Aniyah Palace will also only be used for large scale game modes. As you can see from the screenshot, there are more than the traditional three Domination flags.

When the Open Beta comes around on September 12, we will hopefully see even more maps available.
How will the new versions of maps affect Modern Warfare?
As you can see from the images above, no two maps are alike in Modern Warfare. Some have night version settings, while others are so large scale that they need more Domination flags.
For some, this innovation will be a good change of pace. Others, however, worry that this means there won’t be as many enjoyable maps for regular modes. The night version of maps will be interesting to play for the first few weeks, but how will it feel after the “honeymoon phase” is over?
As for the large scale maps, some in the community are worried about the standard modes suffering as a result. In Call of Duty: WW2, Sledgehammer Games put a lot of resources into their large scale War mode. While this mode was fun, it meant fewer maps for standard multiplayer modes.
There is no official word on how many 10v10 and 20v20 maps will come at launch. Hopefully, Infinity Ward will be able to manage their maps effectively. If they don’t, Modern Warfare could grow stale extremely quick.
