Talon Esports head coach Arachne leaves for San Francisco Shock

Overwatch League franchise San Francisco Shock have welcomed their newest assistant coach in former Talon Esports head coach Ji-won “Arachne” Lee. The Korean coach is the newest addition to the Shock for their coaching staff after Bumhoon “NineK” Kim left the organization for a role as an assistant coach on fellow team Paris Eternal.

Arachne as assistant coach

“Hello I am Arachne, Ji Won coach. I am very happy to join the San Francisco Shock team. Thank you all very much, especially my parents who supported me to the end, and the Talon Esports officials,” said Arachne, on Twitter.

The 21-year-old previously competed as a professional Overwatch player in the main tank role for Mighty AOD. However, his next role was as a coach for Israel-based esports organization Zengaming Esports. The now-disbanded team featured DPS player Josh “Eqo” Corona, who later left for the Philadelphia Fusion. In March of 2018, Arachne joined Hong Kong Overwatch Contenders team Talon Esports. The team went on to place 1st in season 2 of 2018’s Overwatch Contenders Pacific Division. 

The next year, Talon Esports repeated the same results back to back during seasons 1 and 2 of Overwatch Contenders in the Pacific Division. However, the team fell short in Seoul, South Korea after a loss to Gen G at the Overwatch Contenders Gauntlet event. With the departure of Arachne and Sam “face” Merewether to the Los Angeles Gladiators, only assistant analyst Youngseo “Useul” Hong is left.

San Francisco Shock enter 2020 

After winning season 2 of the Overwatch League Grand Finals, the San Francisco Shock have kept most of their roster, other than parting ways with Andreas “Nevix” Karlsson. In addition, head coach Daehee “Crusty” Park and Jae “Junkbuck” Choi have remained. With the experience that Arachne has, the Shock is looking strong as they enter the 2020 Overwatch League.
