On Jan. 15, esports organization Envy announced on Twitter the removal of Jacob “Fugly” Medina from the active CSGO player roster. The tweet also mentioned that Fugly is now a “restricted” free agent. While Envy didn’t clarify the specifics, this likely means a buyout is in place for the player until his contract expires.

The alleged conflict between Fugly and Envy
In the past, Envy was very successful in the Counter-Strike: Global Offensive scene. However, there are now plans for the team to rebuild from scratch. The current team captain, Noah “Nifty” Francis, is leading the rebuild, which has caused some conflict within the remaining members of the team.
Most of the conflict came to light shortly after the announcement post of Fugly’s retirement, when the player took to Twitter to explain his side of the story. In a TwitLonger post, Fugly explains everything that happened to him and the alleged mistreatment. In the first part of the post, he discusses the requirement of moving from his current residence in Arizona. At first, Fugly alleges, the team promised that they would not require him to move to a different location. This promise was a big part of his decision to join the Envy roster, he explains.
No communication from management
Fugly goes on to discuss how several months went by with little to no communication between him and the Envy management throughout the off-season. Fugly was informed that he would indeed have to move, and despite many messages from him, he was unable to get a solid response on how much the team could help him to do so financially. During this time, several roster moves were also made, including the removal of Zachary “Eley” Stauffer and Bradley “Android” Fodor. Fugly states that he was not informed about any of these moves beforehand.
Then, on Jan. 13, Fugly learned that the team had benched him. He summed up his statement with the following:
So all in all, I was jebaited for over a month, lied to, left on the backburner and after all that, it ends like this.
It’s hard to say how much of the allegations made by Fugly are true. There are always two sides to every story, after all. At this point, we are waiting for the response from the Team Envy management.
