Team Liquid sweep FlyQuest 2-0 in LCS Lock In quarterfinals
The North American super team has been surrounded by hype since before the start of the season; going into Lock In, they were clear favorites to compete in the grand finals. In the offseason, the legacy org brought in storied veterans like top laner Gabriël “Bwipo” Rau and bot laner Steven “Hans sama” Liv to compliment an already stacked core of jungler Lucas “Santorin” Larsen and support Jo “CoreJJ” Yong-in. The final piece of their roster was former TSM mid laner Søren “Bjergsen” Bjerg, who recently returned to pro play after spending a year as a coach for his old team.
“I was worried that I was gonna play really poorly, but I’m still doing okay in the games,” said Bjergsen in a post-series interview. “It was fun getting to play in Academy and I think it’s been fun learning to play with so many different players.”
Due to unforeseen immigration complications, Team Liquid has been playing with a rotating bot lane consisting of two duos of LCS and Academy players. CoreJJ played his Lock In group stage games with Team Liquid Academy bot laner Yeon, while Hans sama was matched up with support Bill “Eyla” Nguyen. Both CoreJJ and Hans sama played an official match together for the first time today in game one against FlyQuest after the team subbed in Team Liquid Academy top laner Bradley “Bradley” Benneyworth.
Next week, Team Liquid will face Dignitas QNTMPAY, who earned their placement with a staggering upset over 100 Thieves earlier in the day, in the LCS 2022 Lock In semifinals. This time, the match will be a best-of-five series, and Bjergsen will be matching up against his former TSM teammate Vincent “Biofrost” Wang.
