The LCS has eliminated four-time reigning champions Team Liquid from being part of this year’s LCS Spring Playoffs. Their final game on Sunday night against Cloud9 was full of many surprises. As the 45-minute game came to a close, disappointment loomed over the team as they realized they would no longer participate in the LCS until next Summer.
Team Liquid did their best, however, fighting for objectives like never before. They ended the game with 3 drakes, 6 towers, and 19 kills. Although they performed exceptionally well in team fights, Cloud9 had the upper hand in the last Baron fight. They defeated most of TL’s players, took that opportunity to push forward into their base, and ultimately won the game.
Fighting until the very end
Nevertheless, Team Liquid attempted to hang on to the very end to prove to the world they can come back. The loss led to an outpouring of support on Twitter as followers addressed the elephant in the room – they had had a very disappointing Spring Split.
After the game, TL posted on Twitter to close out their game with some thoughtful words. “Thank you to everyone who stuck with us through it all.” Some followers commented with sympathy; others, not so much.
We gave it everything we had.
This is not the team that brought you four repeat titles, but hopefully that performance showed that, with time, we can be once again.

Honesty and realizations
The team’s players also shared their disappointment. The common attitude throughout the team is to not excuse poor performance, but rather to practice more for the next Split. TL’s Jungler Mads “Broxah” Brock-Pedersen believed that a victory for the team wasn’t meant to be, and all he can do is hope for the best in the future.
Very sad and disappointed about this split. We had an opportunity to come back and make a miracle run happen here at the end, but it simply wasn't meant to be.

As Cloud9 continues to push through to the LCS Spring Playoffs, they are one of few teams in the history of the league to carry a 17-1 score. Other teams to reach this milestone included Immortals for Spring 2016 and TSM for Summer 2016. Following right behind C9 are Evil Geniuses, FlyQuest, 100 Thieves, and TSM.
