For the first time since its foundation in 2000, Team Liquid has named a president. Entertainment and media veteran, Claire Hungate, will now serve as Team Liquid’s president and Chief Operating Officer as the company expands its business beyond North American and European esports.

Hungate has more than 20 years experience in business development, specifically around “the monetization of content-driven audience engagement.” She has spent much of her career in the broader entertainment industry but also has experience in the gaming industry, like with her most recent position as the Independent Director of Avalanche Studios Group. Many of her other previous roles were in executive positions across other media brands, especially music and television.

Notably, Hungate spent a few years serving as CEO of Warner Bros. TV Production UK, and she helped grow Brave Bison Group PLC “into a profitable social content studio and media network, making it the second-largest global, media and entertainment digital publisher on Facebook.”

At Team Liquid, Hungate “will oversee Liquid’s profit and loss and overall global business strategy and operations, defining and leading plans for global expansion, acquisitions and new revenue streams,” and “provide oversight for the company’s diversity, equity and inclusion practices.”

Team Liquid has been expanding beyond esports in recent years, with notable changes to the company’s operations, like their signing of television star, Asa Butterfield, last October. Team Liquid has also been broadening their scope with their new media technology in Liquid+, their very own fan engagement platform.

On joining Liquid, Hungate expressed her evaluation of the brand and her intent on elevating it. “Liquid is a foundational player in esports and has grown into a global and multi-generational brand. As the industry continues to grow, we have a real opportunity to help set the agenda for the future of esports both culturally and commercially. Team Liquid have played a critical part in establishing esports history to date and I hope I can help them continue to make that mark.”

Finally, in addition to naming their first president, Liquid also promoted Bo Kryne to Vice President of Fan Management, where he will serve under Hungate directly. Kryne has been leading the Liquid+ operation and will continue to do so in his new role.
