North American esports organization Team Liquid announced today that it has signed the former Alliance Dota 2 roster. This roster will fill in the blanks that were created after Team Liquid’s previous roster requested to leave and form their own organization. This news comes only one week after the roster was released from Alliance so it could build a new roster from scratch.

Former Alliance Dota 2 roster
The new Team Liquid roster consists of Aydin “iNSaNiA” Sarkohi, Michael “miCKe” Vu, Maximilian “qojqva” Bröcker, Samuel “Boxi” Svahn, and Tommy “Taiga” Le. This lineup was originally revealed in November of 2017 as the new Alliance roster, which also included Jonathan “Loda” Berg. Loda later moved to a coaching role when qojqva joined in June of 2018.
While with the organization, the roster went on to a 1st place finish at Reshuffle Madness and 9 – 12th at 2017’s The Kuala Lumpur Major. In 2019, the lineup took 13 – 16th at The Chongqing Major, 3rd at OGA’s Dota PIT Minor, and 11 – 12th at ESL One Birmingham. The team also managed to achieve 2nd at StarLadder’s Season 2 ImbaTV Dota 2 Minor, 5 – 6th at the EPICENTER Major, and 1st at DOTA Summit 10.

The International 2019 marked the end of the Dota 2 competitive season, where the Alliance roster finished in 13 – 16th after a loss to Royal Never Give Up. The team might be considered decent in the scene, but it cannot be compared to Team Liquid’s former championship roster. The ex-Liquid lineup was known for its 1st place finish at The International 2017, where it took home almost $11 million in prize pool earnings. It also boasted a 4th place finish at The International 2018 and 2nd place at the most recent The International 2019.
The former Alliance team will have big shoes to fill, as Team Liquid Dota 2 fans will no doubt expect similar results. Compared to prior bottom bracket placements on Alliance, most of Team Liquid’s have been in the upper half. Can this group of players be developed into a championship-level team?
