As the year 2019 comes to a close, we prepare for the final two updates to Teamfight Tactics’ first calendar year. As explained in the full patch 9.24 notes, the developers aim to change several key strategies like Hyperrolling currently popular in Teamfight Tactics, as well as add three new champions: Lucian, Senna, and Amumu.
Introducing three new champions to Teamfight Tactics
The Teamfight Tactics 9.24 patch is a big one with the arrival of new champions to mix up the metagame. With the soul duo of Lucian and Senna, a new Class has been created, Soulbound. The patch notes explain: “The first Soulbound champion to die will instead continue fighting as an untargetable spirit until all other Soulbound champions are dead.”
In addition to these two, a new 5-cost champion has been introduced. Amumu will be entering the Teamfight Tactics champion pool as an Inferno, Warden champion with “Ability: Curse of the Sad Mummy – Amumu explodes in an infernal tantrum, dealing 150/250/1337 magic damage to all enemies within 2/3/4 hexes, and stunning them for 2 seconds.”
Quality-of-life updates
A common complaint from set one of Teamfight Tactics was the lack of a way to quickly find your board after scouting other players’ fields. Today’s update introduces a “home button” when scouting other players’ fields. This is in addition to a “Carousel Button,” which takes you back to the carousel if you use the waiting time to scout on your opponents during the shared draft.
A key change to a popular strategy
Since the release of Teamfight Tactics, the concept of “Hyperrolling” has been a key strategy. A strategy of Hyperrolling means a player saves up all available gold resources at the start of a game. Then the round before the player would level up through the free 2 XP everyone earns every round, all gold is spent to maximize the chances of obtaining Tier 3 versions of 1-cost champions.
The reason this is so effective is that the chance of obtaining a 1-cost champion is the highest at the lower levels. To combat this, Ivern, Maokai, and Renekton will see their late-game scaling power at the higher tiers reduced slightly.
There are many more updates to various champions and items, which can be found in the full patch notes. If League of Legends is more your thing, be sure to check out our patch 9.24 coverage.
