The 2021 CDL has the potential to be the best season of COD ever

It’s no secret that the lead-up to the 2021 Call of Duty League season has been nothing short of exhausting. From the original move to 4v4 play to the massive roster shuffling that followed, 2021 is going to be a bloodbath. However, thanks to all of this movement, it could result in something truly special for both the fans and players alike. With so much roster movement and fewer spots available, teams are reportedly more competitive than ever. However, will this transfer over into the 2021 CDL being the best season of all-time for Call of Duty esports?

Looking at the 2021 CDL season

The moment that the Call of Duty League announced the transition to 4v4, the entire landscape of Call of Duty esports shifted. Teams now needed to drop at least one starting player and likely some additional substitutes. However, with 4v4 comes all new roles, strategies, and needs for each individual roster.

With all of that mind, it seems that many organizations either panicked or thought they could do better than 2020’s performance. CDL organizations began dropping entire rosters left and right as soon as the 4v4 announcement went live. Seattle, London, Paris, L.A., and even Chicago all dropped at least two players.

While this is unfortunate for some players, this massive shuffling means we could be in store for a terrific 2021 season. There are more high-profile players available than ever before in CoD esports. Although no rosters have been announced yet, the leaks we’re hearing indicate that this availability could lead to some absolutely stacked rosters.

In 4v4 play, rosters need to be as competitive as possible. Teams can no longer experiment with amateurs — they know experienced and proven players are the way to go in 2021. While things could change, that mindset looks to be forming some of the best rosters we’ve ever seen in CoD.

Although we can’t predict the future, the more competitive the teams, the better the season. The 2021 CDL has the potential to be the best season in the history of Call of Duty esports. Let’s hope this potential isn’t squandered.
