The Call of Duty League announces official free agency rules for 2021

The Call of Duty League is starting to wrap up its inaugural 2020 season later this month. The CDL Playoffs and Champs take place in late August and after that, the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare season is over. With that, the first annual free agency period for the Call of Duty League can begin. Since there’s more structure to the league this year, free agency will work a little differently than in years past. Teams will still be able to sign players and offer a set salary, but Activision is also making some changes to the current system in place.

Call of Duty League free agency guidelines

The full press release was announced via the official Call of Duty League website. You can read the full release on there but we’ll also be going over the key points that Activision laid out.

Essentially, Activision wants to make it clear that any changes are for the good of the league and its players. The 2020 season saw some players miss out on playing time due to the strict rules in place. However, in 2021, those restrictions will be lifted to an extent. For example, substitutes can now team with substitutes on another CDL team in the Challengers circuit.

In addition to that, CDL teams can now sign players to 14-day contracts. This allows a test period to see if the signing is a good fit. Although, organizations can’t sign a player to more than two 14-day contracts.
