The ultra light weight mouse • MSI Clutch GM50 mouse review

The new ultra-lightweight gaming mouse from MSI has landed. The MSI Clutch GM50 is designed for quick movement and rapid clicks. We got our hands on this new tech to give it a go.

Ultra-light mouse

Weighing in at only 87 grams, this mouse is one of the lightest around. Its lightweight nature allows you to perform really quick movements and rapid-speed clicks. I would almost say this mouse is too light. It almost feels like you don’t even have anything in your hands. It’s a stark contrast to some of the new MSI keyboards that have just been released. If you’re a first-person shooter player, then this mouse is perfect for you. You’ll be able to fire of tons of rounds, and quickly move around to take down your opponents.

Ultra-light also means this mouse is great for travelling. Aside from the cord which you can easily wrap up, this mouse stashes really nicely for travelling — that is when we’re all allowed to travel again.

Good grip, precision scrolling, nice details

One of the reasons why they call this a clutch mouse is because it has good grip. It doesn’t come with a rubber grip like some of the other mice on the market, but the fully textured sides of the mouse provide great grip. This also fits nicely with the light-weight feel of the mouse. As for the scrolling, the wheel on this mouse has really high precision. One little roll up and you can move your window exactly where you need to be. This is great if you’re scrolling through your weapons and you don’t want to roll past one, like we haven’t all done that in Fortnite.

Textured sides provide the Clutch GM50 with good grip.

I’m one for little details and the small added features really round out the MSI Clutch GM50 mouse. Instead of being black, this mouse has a silvery-finished metal look. It stands out from the crowd. Add the MSI dragon to the mix and overall this mouse has a nice look to it. The MSI dragon lights up and can be changed into a number of different colors. There’s also a half logo dragon on the bottom just for added effect; although you aren’t going to be doing much looking at the underside of your mouse.

Finally, this mouse has the few standard programmable buttons for you to change to your heart’s desire. One middle button just below the scroll wheel, and two on the left side of the mouse.

Mystic lighting

You all know I love my RGB. Anything with RGB gets a big tick from me. The mouse has a number of different lighting zones you can program. You can have multiple colors shown on the mouse at once, or just one color. With lots of different zones to program, you can make your MSI Clutch GM50 mouse really unique.

There are tons of pre-programmable effects to choose from and you can also customize your own lighting effects too. All you need is the MSI Mystic Light software. This is available in the Dragon Center software that you can download from the MSI website. The cool thing about using Dragon Center is not only can you program your mouse, but you can also synchronize any other MSI devices with your new mouse. For a full list of compatible devices, check the Mystic Lighting website.

The software also allows you to link up with other hardware such as the Phillips Hue light or the Nanoleaf light for an even more immersive experience. There’s a few games you can link up too. If you link your games with MSI’s Game Mode, then you’ll be able to have some really cool effects in-game. Games currently able to link include:

  • Assassin’s Creed Valhalla
  • Assassin’s Creed Odyssey
  • Monster Hunter World: Iceborne
  • Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Breakpoint
  • Watch Dogs: Legion

In terms of lighting, this mouse gets an A+ from me. I almost couldn’t keep up with the hundreds of lighting combinations. If you’ve got a really cool lighting combo, post us a link in the comments.

Affordable

If you like a light-weight mouse, then this might be a good pick for you. It looks great, has cool lighting effects, and has a couple of buttons for you to program. And if you’re thinking about getting one, good news is they aren’t super expensive. Coming in at $79.95 AUD, the MSI Clutch GM50 mouse is relatively affordable. So if you’re looking for a new mouse and you don’t mind super light-weight, or you are an FPS player, consider this new mouse from MSI.
