Trevenant will join Pokémon UNITE’s roster next week

The character will debut on Jan. 20

Trevenant, a Ghost/Grass-type from the Kalos region, will soon become the newest character to join the roster of Pokémon UNITE. The Japanese Twitter account confirmed that Trevenant will become playable on Jan. 20, one week after its reveal.

Trevenant is classified as a Defender in Pokémon UNITE. This means it will have a high Endurance stat and will be most useful for protecting allies and interfering with opponents, rather than outright scoring goals itself. It joins a lineup of Defenders that includes Slowbro, Crustle, Snorlax, Blastoise, Mamoswine and Greedent.

Trevenant will also become the game’s 10th downloadable character, following Gardevoir, Blissey, Blastoise, Mamoswine, Sylveon, Greedent, Decidueye, Tsareena and Dragonite. Although Trevenant will join the cast as the fourth DLC Defender, the developers have yet to introduce a Speedster outside of the base roster.

More about Trevenant in Pokémon UNITE

In its gameplay trailer, Trevenant can be seen attacking with moves like Curse and Wood Hammer. It also possesses a move that allows it to push opponents back and briefly stun them, which could contribute to the character’s utility in teamfight situations. Trevenant’s Unite Move is an area-of-effect attack, wherein it summons a small, spooky forest in order to deal damage to opponents.

Trevenant’s unevolved form, Phantump, did not appear in the character’s Pokémon UNITE reveal trailer. As a result, it is currently unclear whether Trevenant will evolve by leveling up over the course of a battle. Certain other characters begin fights fully evolved despite having pre-evolutions in the main series games. Such characters include the likes of Lucario, Snorlax and Mr. Mime.

Alongside Trevenant’s addition to the game next week, Pokémon UNITE fans have more content to anticipate in the near future. Producer Masaaki Hoshino recently announced a new tournament mode for the game’s debut appearance at the Pokémon World Championships later this year.
