Turbopolsa joins NRG in Rocket League’s first ever NA – EU transfer

The die is finally cast. After his surprising departure from Dignitas, three-time Rocket League World Champion Pierre “Turbopolsa” Silfver was announced as NRG’s new third. The news comes after weeks of speculation concerning who would follow up after Jayson “Fireburner” Nunez’s retirement. This change marks the first-ever transfer between a European and North American Rocket League team. The first-ever cross-region transfer was, of course, that of Matthew “Drippay” Den-Kaat, who left the Oceanic region to join Evil Geniuses in North America.

Turbopolsa’s track record

Funnily enough, the closest world championship NRG ever got to was in season five against Turbopolsa himself. The Swede scored the golden goal to secure the win for Dignitas after one of the best series ever played in Rocket League. That win meant his third consecutive RLCS world championship after he had already won it the season before with the same team, and the season before that as a substitute for Northern Gaming. He even came close to winning it a fourth time in a row after complete domination in season six. However, they completely collapsed in the grand final against Cloud9.

That loss also ushered in the end of the Dignitas dynasty. Shortly after, his teammate Alex “Kaydop” Courant left for Renault Vitality. Turbo remains one of the best players the game has to offer though, and NRG made a big step towards finally winning that first world championship. But first, we’ll see him at Beyond the Summit, closely followed by DreamHack Montreal.

Fireburner’s departure

With Turbopolsa’s arrival comes the retirement of Fireburner. The veteran decided to call it quits after season seven, explaining that the stress of performing no longer lets him enjoy Rocket League. Fortunately, we won’t have to say goodbye to him entirely. Fireburner will remain in the scene as a streamer, content creator, and professional coach. It’s not unlikely that we’ll see him stay with NRG as a manager and trainer. He has attended every single world championship, so we cannot understate his experience. Combined with Turbopolsa and his two new teammates in Garrett “GarrettG” Gordon and Justin “jstn” Morales, NRG is looking like an even more dangerous force to be reckoned with.
