Gavin “Tweek” Dempsey & Nairoby “Nairo” Quezada won Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Doubles at Glitch 7 – Minus World. Though they are both high-level players from New Jersey, this was their first time teaming together at a major event.
Tweek & Nairo faced a couple of scares before top 12. They dropped games to two teams in pools: Christi “Chia” Korsak & Jinny “FROOT” B. and Scot “SMB” Burnett & Ricky “LingLing” Gorritz. However, Nairo & Tweek beat Yatiyaña “yeti” Schaper & Brett “8BitMan” Esposito 2-0 in Winners Quarters.
Tweek & Nairo defeated double Peach team Ezra “Samsora” Morris & Antony “MuteAce” Hoo in Glitch 7 Doubles Winners Semis. Then, in Winners Finals, they earned a 3-1 victory over Rasheen “Dark Wizzy” Rose & Pariz “Light” Ramirez. Dark Wizzy & Light retaliated with a 3-0 victory in the first set of Grand Finals. However, Tweek & Nairo took the final five-game set in order to win the whole tournament.
Though they hadn’t teamed together before Glitch 7, Tweek & Nairo have individually excelled in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Doubles. Tweek has previously won significant Doubles tournaments with Tyler “Marss” Martins and Brian “Cosmos” Kalu. Nairo has won Doubles tournaments with Cosmos and Dark Wizzy.
Other results from Glitch 7 Doubles
Like Tweek & Nairo, Dark Wizzy & Light had never teamed together prior to Glitch 7 Smash Ultimate Doubles. Even so, they had a strong run to 2nd place. Dark Wizzy & Light beat Jon Suarez & Carlos “Raptor” Vanegas and Chukwuemeka “Mekos” Anazia & Troy “Puppeh” Wells in pools. Then, they defeated Chris “WaDi” Boston & Samuel “Dabuz” Buzby and Jestise “MVD” Negron & Eric “ESAM” Lew.
Singles champion ESAM had a solid run to 3rd place in Glitch 7 Doubles, alongside his static partner MVD. They fell into losers early at the hands of Samsora & MuteAce. Despite this, they had a rather impressive losers run. MVD & ESAM started top 12 by beating Suarez & Raptor and Will “JLim” Beckler & Jared “Dazai” W. They then defeated WaDi & Dabuz before winning their rematch with Samsora & MuteAce.
