The new iteration of the PogChamp emote on Twitch has received some scrutiny since its inception. The platform was forced to remove the old face of the emote after the originator tweeted some unsavory comments about the storming of the US Capitol. To help the emote live on, Twitch decided to replace the emote’s face with a new community one every 24 hours. This allows for more fan interaction and for other streamers to receive more recognition. However, the emote’s face for Monday, CriticalBard, came under fire when an insensitive clip of him surfaced on social media.

CriticalBard facing backlash after insensitive Twitch clip surfaces

Twitch’s choice to choose CriticalBard as the face of PogChamp was controversial from the start. When the platform announced the news on Twitter, thousands of fans flooded the account’s mentions with past tweets from the streamer.

For the most part, the tweets revolve around racial issues. However, most fans agree that CriticalBard takes the issues to an extreme level. While it’s certainly his prerogative to speak on these matters, some of his past tweets could certainly be considered controversial.

Unfortunately for the streamer, things only got worse throughout the day. Live on stream, CriticalBard began talking more about racial injustices and it’s safe to say he offended a chunk of his audience.

The biggest issue fans seem to have with the above clip is CriticalBard stating “white lives don’t matter.” While the streamer later said this statement was taken out of context, he deleted that part of the stream from his VODs. His Twitter was also set to private shortly after the stream ended.

Some fans knew what the streamer was attempting to say, but it’s widely agreed that CriticalBard did a poor job of explaining his stance. His past tweets on the subject also don’t help the situation.

In response to this incident, the community is growing more concerned with Twitch’s new route for the PogChamp emote. Whoever is chosen for that 24-hour honor is an ambassador for the platform. If they happen to have some disturbing past tweets, then the new innovation is all for nothing.

Twitch has yet to respond to the CriticalBard situation he remained the face of throughout the day PogChamp.
