Day 8 of VALORANT Champions Tour Masters Berlin was the first day in this tournament’s endgame. Today decided the fate for many regions, and teams had to play, not just for themselves, but for hopeful teams at home. And we also must say goodbye (for now) to the defending Champions of VCT.
VALORANT Masters Berlin Day 8 Game Highlights: Sentinels vs. Team Envy and more
Match Q4 — Team Envy vs. Sentinels (2-0): This was the first of the North American duels that viewers were excited for. For Team Envy, this match was to keep pace with 100 Thieves and not get knocked to third. For Sentinels, it was about ego, money and seeding. Both teams were neck and neck for the entire game. On Haven, Team Envy shut down a six round win streak to take the map 14-12 in overtime. Split was just as contentious.

But Envy pulled ahead. They played extremely well in the match, dethroning Sentinels with a 2-0 sweep.
Match Q1 — Gambit Esports vs. Vision Strikers (2-1): This match was a good showing for both teams. Ayaz “nAts” Akhmetshin started things out with a Flawless. The game looked fairly one-sided on Bind, when Gambit took it 13-2. But Vision Strikers came back hard to absolutely demolish on Split, taking that 13-7. And so, it came to map 3, Icebox.

At first, it was Gambit’s game to lose, up at the half 8-4. But Vision Strikers tried to break their momentum. The lead at the half proved to be too much though, and Gambit won it 13-8. It is a shame to see a team as amazing as Vision Strikers leave, but we will be seeing them again at Champions.

Match Q2 — G2 Esports vs. KRÜ Esports (2-0): This match was a must win for KRÜ if they wanted a Latin American team in the Berlin finals. And they put up a strong fight. KRÜ were able to make good clutches and compete with G2 Esports in the beginning of Icebox, but G2 was able to take momentum away from them and end the map 13-9.

Haven also had a strong showing, but G2, and in particular, keloqz, farmed KRÜ hard, ending with 372 ACS on Haven alone. It was great to see a LATAM team do so well at an international tournament, beating out giants like Vivo Keyd and ZETA DIVISION, but their run has ended in Berlin.

Match Q3 — 100 Thieves vs. Acend (2-1): This was one of the closest matches so far. Acend took the first map 13-9 with Mehmet Yağız “cNed” İpek absolutely popping off. But 100 Thieves came back with flying colors on the next map, taking Haven 13-8. With how close each map was, the third was anyone’s guess.

And what better way to end a close game 3 than with an overtime win. 100 Thieves was down 4-8 at the half, and then 10-4 after pistol, but they came back to tie it into OT, which they took 14-12. Both teams played hard, and its not over for Acend yet, as we’ll see them at Champions. But the amazing Acend players that fans have come to love are done in Berlin.

The day’s impact on VALORANT Masters Berlin
With two regions saying goodbye in Berlin, and other teams going home, we saw some big movement in the regional rankings. Many were based on the matches from Day 7.
With Vision Strikers gone, movement is now done in Korea, and the bracket is finalized. This means DAMWON Gaming are out of VCT 2021.
With KRÜ Esports now out of Berlin, the rankings in LATAM are also set. Six Karma will compete in SA LCQ and Border Monsters are out for the rest of VCT 2021.
With Acend out of Berlin, it is now up to Gambit and or G2 to determine the entire fate of the EMEA region. Fnatic needs Gambit to win the next match and Berlin order to avoid EMEA LCQ, as they’ll be pulled up to second. Acend need G2 to lose, or they will be tied with them for VCT points. Gambit is automatically qualifying for Champions, but winning Berlin would allow Fnatic to go to Champions automatically. Everything is really riding on the Gambit v G2 game in Day 9.
With Sentinels out, it is up to Team Envy or 100 Thieves to try and carry North America to a Berlin win. Whoever loses the game on Day 9 will need the victor to win Berlin in order to avoid LCQ.
