Back in September, WePlay! announced the plans to run a series of Artifact tournaments throughout the months of October, November, and December. However, these plans had to change with the delay of the Artifact closed beta. The Artifact beta release date is now set to Nov. 19, with the main game being released on Nov. 28, 2018. This week we got information on when the first of the three events will be held. It will start Nov. 29 and run all the way to Dec. 4.

The first tournament of the series will be a $10,000 invite-only event. The 32 invited players will be among the most known players from other card games, featuring streamers and competitors from Gwent, Hearthstone, and Magic the Gathering.

The format

This tournament will make use of the constructed format. What this means is that the players are able to choose their own colors and heroes they want to use in their deck. The players will be split up into four groups of eight players, who will face off in a double elimination format. Win two series and you advance to the top 16; lose two series and you are out of the tournament. The entire tournament will be played out in a best-of-three format. In the top 16, however, the matches will be played out in a single-elimination format, which means if you lose a series, you are out.

Prize pool distribution

The winner of the tournament will get $5,000 and the eternal glory for winning WePlay! Artifact Mighty Triad: Strength. The runner-up will receive $3,000, and the rest of the prize pool will be divided among semifinalists. The semifinalists each receive $1,000.

Participants

While everyone in this event is a noteworthy player, here are a few we are happy to see compete at this event.

Lifecoach

To start, Adrian “Lifecoach” Koy. He is one of the strongest competitors at this event, having a deep understanding of Artifact not many people can compete with. His time competing in Hearthstone and Gwent, as well as his history in poker, gives him a great chance to succeed in Artifact.

StanCifka

Next up is Stanislav “StanCifka” Cifka. StanCifka goes by the username Luckbox in the Artifact alpha. Many regard Stancifka as the best player in the alpha. Since he has competed in card games for many years, there is no way around this card game legend.

Reynad

Andrey “Reynad” Yanyuk has long competed in all card games. Starting out at an early age playing Magic: The Gathering, Reynad is most known for his Hearthstone stream, as well as being the owner of Team Tempo Storm. Besides his work as the CEO and owner of Team Tempo Storm, Andrey has been working on his own card game, The Bazaar, which is currently in the early development stages.

Hyped

George “Hyped” Maganzini, a competitor among multiple esports titles, is taking a shot at Artifact now. Hyped also competed at the Preview Tournament just last weekend, where we learned just how many hours Hyped has put into Artifact so far. The casters stated that Hyped has over 2,000 hours of Artifact played already over the last month, more than any other player.

At this time there are still two competitors yet to be announced. Who do you think will fill these spots? Our guess to fill one of these spots would be the winner of the Artifact Preview Tournament, Joel “Heffaklumpen” Larsson.

The entire event will be broadcast live on the WePlay! Twitch channel.
