Justin “Wizzrobe” Hallett has joined Team Envy as their first competitive Super Smash Bros. player. Team Envy confirmed the news in a tweet posted on June 26. They teased the pick-up in a tweet on June 24, hinting that they might be getting a Captain Falcon player.
Team Envy had been looking to sign a Smash player for years, according to owner and CEO Mike Rufail. Rufail said that Wizzrobe is the “someone special” for whom the organization had been waiting.

Many Smash fans believed that this announcement was long overdue. Wizzrobe has historically struggled to find and keep a patron. This is in spite of the fact that he has consistently been one of the highest-ranked Smash Bros. players without a patron. Fans even shouted “patron him” during Wizzrobe’s stellar run at Smash’N’Splash 5. This support is a testament to just how much the community has rallied behind Wizzrobe in recent months.
Wizzrobe is notable for being one of the best multi-game Super Smash Bros. players. He was ranked No. 5 for Smash 64 on the 2017 64 League Rankings. While there were no Smash 64 rankings for 2018, Wizzrobe did not place outside of the top 8 of any tournament he entered last year.
Wizzrobe finished 2018 as No. 8 in the world for Super Smash Bros. Melee on the MPGR 2018. However, he is currently in contention for the title of best Melee player in the world. Team Envy undoubtedly endorsed Wizzrobe at the perfect time, as his stock is currently higher than ever before.
Wizzrobe’s 2019 thus far
Though Wizzrobe has only entered three Melee tournaments this year, he placed in the top 4 of each event. His results include 4th at GOML 2019, 1st at Smash’N’Splash 5, and 2nd at Smash Summit 8. These placings come with winning records over Juan “Hungrybox” Debidema, William “Leffen” Hjelte, Zain Naghmi, and Masaya “aMSa” Chikamoto.
His results in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate have been less noteworthy overall. Nevertheless, he notably placed 7th in Ultimate at Smash’N’Splash, which also saw his first major tournament victory for Melee. There, he scored upsets over Gavin “Tweek” Dempsey and Andrew “ScAtt” Huntley.
