SMITE revealed its upcoming Transformers crossover event on Oct. 22 during Pulse Con. Hasbro’s virtual event also included a trailer that provided more details on what to expect in the crossover.
The trailer featured Megatron, Starscream and Optimus Prime. Megatron will be Ra in SMITE, while Starscream will be Jing Wei. As for Optimus Prime, he will be available as a skin to Geb players.
While Megatron’s alt-mode will be a tank, his second-in-command will become a jet. Optimus Prime will transform into a truck. Each Transformers character will have two forms as well. The first will be in the SMITE art style, while the other one will be inspired by the movie and television show from the 80s.
“There’s something magical about having Optimus Prime save the day on the Battleground of the Gods,” Alex Cantatore, Hi-Rez Vice President of Brand, said. “We’ve always said that SMITE is the ultimate crossover game, bringing all the world’s myths together. Optimus Prime, Megatron, and Starscream just take that to another level.”
SMITE Executive Producer Travis Brown noted that Titan Forge Games employees are also fans of G1 Transformers. He added that bringing the characters to life in SMITE was a labor of love. The team went above and beyond by creating new models, animations, rigging and effects.
More than meets the eye
The Megatron, Starscream and Optimus Prime skins will be available with the Transformers Battle Pass. According to the trailer, the Transformers Battle Pass will be available for purchase on Nov. 16.
SMITE players and Transformers fans will also receive themed items. Some of these include a ward skin that references Kremzeek, level-up effects paying tribute to Cybertron and a loading frame featuring the Autobots versus Decepticons conflict.
More information about the crossover event and the full reveal of the Transformers skins will be shown during a Twitch livestream scheduled for Oct. 27 at 3 p.m. EDT.
